Choose useful contact fields
A name plus one primary phone number or email produces a simpler code than a record filled with repeated details. Add company, role, website and address only when they help the recipient identify or contact you.
Plan the business-card layout
Keep the quiet zone clear of text, trim lines and decorative patterns. Place a short instruction such as “Scan to save contact” nearby without touching the QR border. Use SVG when a designer will resize the artwork.
Maintain the printed contact
A static vCard cannot be edited after printing. If the phone number, email or company changes, generate a new code. Scan the final proof and verify that each field appears in the correct place before approving a print run.
vCard QR content priorities
| Field | Recommendation | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Always include a clear full name | Helps the recipient identify the contact |
| Phone and email | Use the primary contact methods | Less data keeps the QR pattern simpler |
| Company and role | Include when relevant | Adds context to a saved contact |
| Address and note | Add only when useful | Long records increase QR density |
Pre-production checklist
- Include one clear identity and primary contact method
- Remove fields the recipient does not need
- Keep text and trim lines outside the quiet zone
- Verify every saved field from the print proof
Frequently asked questions
Will a contact save automatically?
Normally no. Phones show a contact preview and ask the user to confirm saving.
Can I update the contact after printing?
Not in a static vCard QR code. Changed details require a newly generated and printed code.
