Static vs Dynamic QR Codes: Expiry and Editing

A static QR code stores its final text or URL inside the pattern and does not expire by itself. A dynamic QR code stores a managed redirect, so its destination can change later but depends on the provider continuing to operate.

What a static QR code does

Static codes open the encoded destination directly. They do not need an EasyQR Kit account or redirect server, and the generated image keeps working as long as the printed pattern is readable and the encoded destination remains valid.

The trade-off is permanence: changing a URL, WiFi password or contact detail requires a new QR code and a new print run.

What a dynamic QR code does

Dynamic services normally encode a short managed URL. When scanned, that address redirects to the current destination and may record scan analytics. Editing is possible because the service changes the redirect, not the printed pattern.

This convenience adds an external dependency. Subscription changes, domain expiry or service shutdown can stop the printed code from reaching its destination.

Which one should you choose?

Choose static for permanent contact details, WiFi access, plain text and stable links when privacy and independence matter. Choose dynamic when a campaign destination must change after printing or when scan analytics are a documented requirement.

For either format, print a physical sample and scan it with more than one phone before producing signs, packaging or labels in volume.
